He began his scientific career at the Institute of Macromolecular Compounds, defending his Ph.D. thesis. After that, Bilibin began study of new polymeric objects - thermotropic liquid crystalline polymers and defended his doctoral thesis on this problem in 1987. In 1990 A. Bilibin was elected as Professor, Head of Macromolecular section of Saint Petersburg University. He has composed many new courses. A. Bilibin has a wide scope of interests - liquid crystalline polymers, polyelectrolytes and their complexes, self-assembly, biopolymers, polymers for drug delivery systems etc. A. Bilibin has organized several international and regional conferences on polymer science. Several times he worked as visiting Professor (Germany, 1994; S. Korea 1991 and others) He is awarded Russian Order of Honor and Order of Friendship. Since 1998 he is affiliate IUPAC member.
